Burkina Faso has a large and increasing number of adolescents between 13 and18 years of age. Because adolescents are considered neither children nor young adults, they are neglected by the church. At this critical age, they are poised to receive guidance and support for spiritual growth.
Adolescents are increasingly being drawn into the secular culture. Those no longer in school have a low level of education, particularly the girls. Therefore, good life skills may be lacking. The prospect for employment, even upon completion of school, is poor. In urban centers, many adolescent girls resort to prostitution, and boys commonly sit idle by the roadsides. As adolescents are the prime source of future leadership for the church and government, they are a strategic group to reach with the gospel. They must not continue to be neglected!
As the Adolescent Ministry Development Facilitator, you have the all-important privilege of working in partnership with the local churches (EE/SIM) to develop programs for adolescents to grow in their faith and to learn leadership and life skills. You get to communicate the gospel to the unreached youth through youth clubs, Bible studies, and discipleship, with a strong emphasis on mentoring leaders of adolescents at the local church level. What greater way is there to impact the church of Burkina!
