This is a tremendous opportunity to travel abroad and teach English in a Christian context to speakers of another language. There are at least 20,000 Chinese people in the Johannesburg area. This number includes immigrant Chinese who want to improve their basic language skills because they have to be able to communicate in a predominantly English speaking society.
The South Africa Chinese Covenant Church that partners with SIM wants to develop an outreach of church planting in the community through English conversation classes. An English teacher working with experienced missionaries can establish trust and respectful friendships to members of this Chinese community sharing the love of Christ through relationships and by living in the community.
