There are many physically and mentally handicapped children in Mongolia, and for many years they have been kept in the background and given little value by society. In partnership with JCS and the Caring for Disabled Children Project, we are working to change this attitude. The CDCP works to educate Mongolians to value these children, and these Special Education teachers will be at the heart of this work.

JCS International started the "Caring for Disabled Children Project" in November 2001 and opened the Hope Center, which functions as a model classroom for disabled children. While many handicapped children lack the opportunity to enter a regular school, 20 children in Erdenet now have the chance to learn and physically develop through the Hope Center.

Each child has a specially designed education and physical therapy program for his/her individual needs which has made a big difference in the children's quality of life. Parents are also trained to contribute to their child's educational needs out of school hours.

It is a child-centered educational and rehabilitation program that encourages self-reliance. It also provides training for teachers, medical personnel, and parents who work directly with these children. In addition, the project helps to make society aware of the value of these children through increased exposure and awareness seminars.

If your training is in special education and your passion is to enrich the lives of these children, their teachers, families and impact the whole community, we could use your help in Mongolia.
