'House of Hope' in Nigeria
A gift of food for a day, or a set of clothing will encourage a child at 'House of Hope'.
Gidan Bege Centre, (Hausa for “House of Hope”) Jos, Nigeria is a refuge for orphans and other children who have been neglected and abused. They have physical and spiritual problems; they can be suspicious and fearful. Living on the streets means they have highly developed survival skills, so winning their trust and confidence takes time. Yet the staff and volunteers at Gidan Bege are thrilled at the spiritual, emotional and physical transformation in the children who have come through "House of Hope."
Grace, a nine year old girl, was brought by her grandfather to Gidan Bege, fleeing for her life. Accused of being a witch and causing sickness in her community, her life was in danger. When she arrived she was scared and traumatised. The team prayed with her. The Gidan Bege ‘Grandma’ stayed with her as she slept, conducting a prayer vigil through the night. The next day she was so different. She was relaxed, smiling, and running around. The power of prayer in transforming lives is so great. She would not be alive today without Gidan Bege. Grace arrived with only the clothes she was wearing; she was so happy to receive new clothes to wear, and food to eat.
