If you're thinking of doing a medical or language elective, Serving In Mission can help.
Our medical programme offers students the chance to work alongside experienced colleagues and gain eye-opening hands-on experience. You will discover what life is like in another culture and be involved in the Christian community around the hospital.
As a language student, you could spend your ‘year abroad’ with Serving in Mission, immersing yourself in both language and serving God. If you speak Spanish, French or Portuguese to a good standard, God could use you during your year abroad.
We have placements available in South America, Francophone West Africa and Portuguese-speaking Angola and Mozambique.
Electives can provide the perfect opportunity to explore whether God is calling you to use your professional skills in future full-time service overseas.Placements are normally for six to eight weeks.
What do I do now?
- We work in partnership with local churches, it is important at this stage that you discuss your plans with your church leaders.
- Complete an Enquire Now form, ideally 12–18 months ahead of your elective.
- Establish the dates you have available, planning to have at least 6 weeks overseas.
- We will try to get an allocation for your first choice hospital, but please indicate if you would also be interested in going elsewhere. .
What will an elective cost?
You will be responsible for all expenses involved in your elective placement. We will draw up an individual budget for you, based on where you are going. It will include flights & internal travel, visa, insurance, living costs, UK orientation course, and Serving In Mission support services.
