"It is like a mustard seed which a man took and planted in his garden. It grew and became a tree and the birds of the air perched in it's branches" Luke ch13 v9
In the same way we want our children, often forgotten by the society, to mature into adults who can really make a difference to the future of Nigeria and the kingdom of God.
Seeking to improve the education of orphans and vulnerable children in City Ministries, Nigeria
We want to create an education programme that will equip our orphans and vulnerable children with good literacy and mathematical skills. It will be established on Biblical morals and establish a firm foundation for their future.
Gyero is a village where we house over one hundred orphans and vulnerable children, many of which have come from abusive homes. When they arrive at the ministry they receive food, shelter, education, discipleship, love and attention. Currently the children attend the local primary school which unfortunately is providing a poor education. We know that unless these children receive an adequate education they will not go on to reach their full potential and positively impact society.
The current situation...
The school building has fallen down in places and children spend lesson time building a new one.
When the school is open the children are taught by an unqualified teacher so very little learning takes place.
The New Project
A stimulating learning environment for the children.
A Nigerian-based curriculum, supplemented with Western education.
Teachers trained on the curriculum they are delivering.
A curriculum that develops the children's understanding through problem-solving and initiative, rather than based on rote learning.
