The APPLE Project

Peer Educator with a class of boy years 6 to 7The Apple Project stands for

  • AIDS
  • PREVENTION
  • PLUS
  • LIFE
  • EDUCATION

The programme aims to enable young people to make sound choices, from a Biblical worldview, in the context of today's social pressures.

By training peer educators to take a Life Skills course into the Zambian schools, young people hear from other young people how to live in a wise and godly way. The life skills course focuses on behaviour change as a means of AIDS prevention.

They teach seminars on the following topics:

  • Freedom, Choices and Consequences,
  • 'I'm Special'
  • Communication
  • Family, Friends, and Love,
  • Growing Up
  • Sex and HIV/AIDS

    Comment from one school:

One team was making appointments for Life Skills at a problem school from last year. The Head teacher was weary about giving them time because of problems caused by similar organisations in the past. A Deputy Headteacher overheard the conversation and joined in to add, 'Sir, this programme done by SU is very beneficial to the children because the children really change their behaviour. I saw a change in the children at the school where I worked previously after their presentations.'
