About SIM HOPE for AIDS
'AIDS has become the most devastating disease humankind has ever faced.' United Nations
When HIV and AIDS appeared in Africa and Asia, our Christian partners were some of the pioneers caring for affected people. Together we have responded compassionately through home-based care, caring for orphans and vulnerable children, prevention training, and enabling partners and communities affected by this pandemic. SIM HOPE for AIDS remains committed to holistic ministry, caring for both the soul and the body.
This is where the name HOPE for AIDS comes from:
Overall objectives H O P E
H OME BASED CARE: To provide home and community-based care for those affected by HIV and AIDS
O RPHANS: To meet the basic needs of orphans and vulnerable children while strengthening the support networks of families and communities.
P REVENTION: To foster responsible decision making, positive behaviour, and safe and supportive environments in order to reduce the transmission of HIV
E NABLING: To strengthen and encourage partners through capacity building, networking and the provision of resources.
plus INCOME GENERATION: To promote and support sustainable livelihoods for those people impacted by HIV and AIDS.
HIV/AIDS is a stalker… It’s a stalker of the most promising for the future – and those too young to know right from wrong. AIDS is a stalker of innocents and guilty alike. Children are born with the virus – children who acquire HIV through their mother’s breast milk – women who have no authority - wives of polygamous husbands – young girls who have been sexually abused – and orphan children who are left so vulnerable. AIDS stalks risky behaviour regardless of wealth or education.
HIV/AIDS is a killer - leaving in its wake: Millions of orphans • Destroyed families and support structures • Devastated economies • Destabilised countries • Destitute widows and children • Death
