In Paraguay, radio is reaching people with the gospel. Christian programmes are being broadcast into homes where there are no Bibles. And radio personalities are taking their messages from their studios to the schools.

SIMers Dan and Christie Reich, managers of Guarani Radio, tell of a kids’ club in a tiny two-room school in Yuty. ‘We sang a Guaraní version of 'Read your Bible, Pray Every Day and You'll Grow, Grow, Grow’, and then we asked them how many of them have a Bible in their house. Two of the 50 kids raised their hands.

‘Then we asked how many of them have a radio. Just about every hand went up. We told them that the way that they could read their Bible to “grow, grow, grow” was to listen to God's Word on the radio.’

From the studio to the schools

Radio ministry is even more powerful when it's coupled with action on the ground. A programme run by the Christian radio station in Asuncion is reaching young people all over the country, as radio announcers follow their programmes with presentations in the schools.

These programmes have provided a way for the Church to talk about moral issues in Paraguay. Topics include: sex, lies and the truth, goals, self-esteem, addictions, suicide, and teamwork

Radio personalities come to the schools and present talks on various topics. They also offer training to equip Christian leaders to do the talks in their regions.

The speakers are in high demand. Bringing in two speakers for 3 days, each doing as many as five talks a day, only begins to meet the need.
