Clean Water

clean waterWater, water everywhere and …

In a country bordering the third largest lake in Africa you might assume that clean water would not be a significant issue affecting the lives of so many people. The truth is that almost one-third of the population of Malawi lacks access to clean water. This last week I had opportunity to witness a community access water from three new or improved water sources.

The community of Tamanimwendo is near the border with Zambia. Some parts of the village area had to walk as far as two hours to access clean water. Partners in Hope, with funding raised by Equitas, was able to change that situation. One new well was drilled in a central location, one hand dug well was improved, cleaned, and capped with concrete and a pump. In a third location, a hand pump that had mechanical failure five years ago was rebuilt with new components.

I travelled with my brother-in-law Steve Cook, who started Equitas a couple of years ago. Together we saw joy expressed through dancing and singing ... as women celebrated over the clear liquid many take for granted each time they turn on the tap.

Urgent Prayer Need

Bingham Academy in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, urgently needs a French teacher to join their staff team in August. Pray that God will provide the right person to meet this need.
