Welcome to Ethiopia, which enjoys the rare distinction of never having been colonised! It is the original home of the coffee tree and boasts some of the world's finest quality coffees. Ethiopia’s spectacular scenery and fascinating history make it one of the most breath-taking nations to visit on the continent.
To see churches established among specified unreached peoples in Ethiopia and to see churches empowered and individuals mentored for missions outreach.
Our Partner Church
Our partner church, the Ethiopian Kale Heywet Church (EKHC), which means "Word of Life" in the Amharic language, grew out of the early missionary efforts. Despite much suffering, EKHC has grown to more than six million baptiszed believers despite much suffering, and now has its own mission school and missionary outreach, ministries to human needs and development projects, Bible schools, theological colleges, women's and children's work, urban ministries programme, and a literature publication centre.
We work closely with EKHC, especially in church ministries in the south of Ethiopia, and are now finding new opportunities for ministry to Ethiopian Orthodox people in the north and outreach to Muslims in other parts of the country. We partner with EKHC in theological education at various academic levels, and have a wide variety of ministries including development, sports, and urban ministries. We work with other mission agencies to serve the expatriate community with excellent education at Bingham Academy.
- The EKHC mission programme, through which many Ethiopian missionaries are already serving cross-culturally, some with SIM.
- The new SIM East Africa Office which will select, prepare and support even more missionaries from EKHC and other Ethiopian churches.
- On-going efforts to reach nomadic and resistant people groups
- Harmonious and fruitful partnerships with EKHC and other groups
